Troon Community Primary School Full Governing Body
Our governing body was re-constituted on April 1st 2014 when we converted to an academy and became part of the Rainbow Multi-Academy Trust – four schools committed to working together to improve learning, outcomes and life chances for all children. The other schools in our MAT are Penponds Primary, St Meriadoc CE Infant Academy and St Meriadoc CE Junior Academy. Please follow the link if you would like to find out more about the Rainbow Multi-Academy Trust.
Functions of the Governing Body
The three core strategic functions are:
- Ensure clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
- Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils;
- Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.
What do our governors do?
The Governing Body is a team of people made up of parents, staff and people from the local community. All of us serve the school by providing overall strategic leadership and management. The governors are ultimately responsible for ensuring that every child gets the best possible education at Troon Community Primary School. All of our governors are incredibly committed volunteers and their key function is to ensure that children enjoy school and make good progress. They check that the school is making the best use of its resources, monitor the budget and help to make key decisions. To ensure they are well informed governors visit school regularly and carry out a variety of monitoring tasks which include: meeting with subject leaders, spending time in lessons, talking with children, looking at children’s work, listening to readers, looking at the learning environment, checking data, championing vulnerable groups and attending special events. Governors also attend training to make sure they are fully up to date with their statutory duties, new legislation and curriculum developments.
